"Hey everybody, it’s Marisa from Europerfumes, and we’re here today to talk about some Fragrance 101 facts and maybe debunking any myths you may know!

  • Storage:

First off let’s talk about how you should store your fragrance. First of all, you want to avoid direct sunlight, so if there’s a window in the bedroom that’s probably not the best place to put the perfume. Similarly, I know you store a lot of your beauty products in your bathroom, but that’s another place you want to avoid due to heat from the shower and all the steam. So the best things you can do is store your fragrance at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. If you want to take it a step further and you have some really special fragrances, you can put them in your wine cellar or in your refrigerator. But you don’t want to adjust the temperature, so if you stay cold or at room temperature, you want to stick with that.

  • How to Apply:

Next up is how to apply. So this is where we want to talk about debunking that theory that you should spray on your wrist and then rub it together. You don’t want to do that for a couple of reasons. One it’s going to create friction and heat which is going to release the molecules in a way in which they were not designed. Similarly you’re going to break up that composition, so if you want that top, middle, and bottom dry down as it was created you want to avoid that. You want to spray it and just let it set.

  • Where to Apply:

That will bring me to my next point: where to apply. Everybody asks where they should spray their fragrances? Wrists are actually great points because if you’re Italian like me or from Jersey we talk with our hands and every time you do that you’re going to create motion which is going to bring the fragrance to life – so that’s great. Similarly, we often spray on our necks. So what you want to do is avoid the front of your neck for two reasons. One, spraying the front of your neck is going to be right under your nose, so then you’re going to go nose blind to it and you’re not going to smell it anymore. Similarly, your décolleté, for the ladies, is a very sensitive part of our skin so you don’t want to apply alcohol to it because it’s drying. So instead, you want to do the sides of your neck and the back of your neck that way when you turn your head you get a little of it and when you greet someone for a hug or a kiss they’re going to get a bit of it. So your wrists, sides- and back- of your neck!

  • If you don’t use it, you lose it.

Lastly: if you don’t use it, you lose it. I brought these as an example for you. Everybody gets really, I don’t want to stay stingy, but protective of the last juice that they may have in their bottle, and they hold onto it, they stop using it, and they save it for special occasions. But you’re not helping yourself because once you’ve done that, you’ve allowed all this oxygen to get in and that’s going to break down the formula and it’s just not going to be as good as when you first bought it. So you’re better off using it and then getting yourself a fresh fragrance bottle!
